Pitless vs Pit-Mounted Weighbridge: Which Should You Choose?
Choosing between a pitless and a pit-mounted weighbridge is one of the first decisions when planning a truck-weighing installation. Both weigh accurately; they differ in how they are installed and maintained.
Pitless weighbridge
A pitless weighbridge sits above ground on a raised foundation with approach ramps. There is no pit to excavate, so installation is faster and civil costs are lower. The open underside makes cleaning, inspection, and load-cell service straightforward.
Pit-mounted weighbridge
A pit-mounted weighbridge is set flush into a pit so the deck is level with the surrounding ground. It saves yard space and avoids ramps, which suits sites where vehicles approach from multiple directions — but it requires excavation and good drainage.
How to choose
- Limited space / flush access needed: pit-mounted.
- Faster, lower-cost install and easy maintenance: pitless.
- High groundwater or drainage concerns: pitless is often simpler.
